Introduction

The l’Arpella Cendrosa (Ashy-crested Woodpecker) is a bird of prey that breeds, above all, in cereal fields. When the forest monitoring team detects a nest, it perimeters a space of a quarter of a hectare that the farmer will not be able to harvest. Once the chicks have flown, the Limonium association collects the cereal from the perimeter area and makes a craft beer from it that it gives to the farmers who have let the bird breed in their fields, URPA, la cervesa salva-nius.

In 2023, Carlitos Miñarro performed in Figuerosa as part of the presentation of the documentary Urpa, un glop fresco per salvar l’Arpella Cendrosa. During the sound checks, the musician improvised a rumba, which the event organizers really liked.

A few months later, the artist was asked to materialize the improvisation of that day in some way.

And here is the song that is presented: Urpa, a rumba that aims to bring a smile and start a dance to everyone who believes that it is necessary to defend the arpella and, therefore, the territory.

Recorded and mixed at the Granja Estudis in La Figuerosa at the end of April 2024 by Sisco Ayala. Mastered by Lluís Sanfeliu.

The song is part of the soundtrack of the documentary Urpa, un glop fresco per salvar l’Arpella Cendrosa, which was released in Tàrrega and Barcelona last April and in Figueres in May.
